Fischer works across a variety of media such as sculpture and photography within a research-based practice. Currently she is investigating how objects more commonly associated with domestic function are (in-)formed by the economic, the social and the political environments in relation to architecture. Her sculptural work, état“ is made of four upright escalator steps resembling post-modernist office towers such as César Pellis One Canada Square.
Having the steps lifted onto heavy duty castors underlines their motif of mobility and progress. The fragility of the blown glass vases and the bended grocery lightings are contrasting the rigidity and hardness of the installation and juxtapose the connotations and representations of the used materials and their values. Rather than just replicating masculine architecture and industrially used materials in her sculptures she seeks for commenting and adding subtle notions of femininity and precarity to them.
